I sometimes get this confused, but here’s the difference between the Hadid sisters: Bella Hadid has Lyme disease, and Gigi Hadid has Hashimoto’s disease. I don’t doubt those diagnoses, but I do doubt why both of their ailments seem to have led to exact same thing: noticeable weight loss, when both of the diseases cause weight GAIN for most people. It’s almost like young models are discouraged from saying “I felt the need to lose weight as I got more work work as a model.” Or even this: “people within the modeling industry encouraged me to lose weight as I became more famous.” Anyway, Gigi took part in a Vogue panel discussion, and she talked about her weight loss and how much she wants to gain some weight back.
Gigi Hadid clapped back impressively at internet trolls who call her too skinny and has been candid about a struggle with Hashimoto’s disease that has caused her to lose weight, but even so, the supermodel admits she’s not immune to the criticism – and that certain things affect her more than others.
“I loved my body when I was curvier,” Hadid, 23, told Vogue Runway Director Nicole Phelps during a panel alongside Kendall Jenner, Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser. “Then as I lost [the weight], people were still mean.”
She continued by saying, “Yeah, I know I’m skinny. I’m looking in the mirror. I’m trying to eat burgers and do squats. I want an ass too. I get it. I got it. Thank you!”
I liked Gigi’s figure when she first started getting a lot of work too – she had such a healthy-looking, athletic-curvy body. She looked great in clothes, she was strikingly beautiful and fresh-looking. And now… she has that tired, deflated look that so many people have when they focus too much on losing weight. Kim Kardashian has that look too. So maybe burgers and squats aren’t the answer?
